Some games have passed into legend. There isn't a single person alive who hasn't played Tetris or a variant. Everyone knows Lemmings are green haired creatures with blue jumpers and an affinity for dying in amusing ways. The same is true for Worms and its spin offs.

For those of you who have been living on another planet for the past ten years, the game involves firing various projectiles and weapons at the opposing team whilst taking things like windspeed, distance and power into account. Mad Macs takes this concept to another level. Rather than a 2 dimensional playing field, it makes the jump to a 3D playing field.

The game graphics are a little blocky at times but given the smoothness of the action, this is more than forgivable.  Rather than insects, snails or other creepy crawlies, the characters in Mad Macs are creattures such as Panda, Tortoise and Croc, each with their own advantages and drawbacks. The standard cannon is accompanied by weapons such as bombing runs, kamakazie runs and rabbit ears (which as far as I an tell, give you a large speed boost).

As the action is turn based, strategy is everything. This means that terrain, position and available weapons can all affect the outcome of the game. I sadly havent had a chance to try the multiplayer version but there is support for two player blast-fests over Bluetooth.

All in all, I like this game a lot. There is room for improvement - a few more special weapons would be nice and some game variants would be nice (say a Zero G map or something similar). Niggles aside, I can recommend this game to anyone with a sense of fun.
